Of Rocks and Airplanes

August 4, 2010

A few weeks ago Josh surprised me by taking Friday off from work. It was supposed to be a horribly  hot day, so we decided to do something that included water. We took the boys to Rock State Park and found a lovely little spot to camp out for the morning.  It’s definitely a spot I want to take the boys back to. The water was clear and cold. Trees shaded the creek and picnic area.

It was actually comfortable and cool with the breeze blowing off the water.

Throwing rocks was the dominant activity of the day. I knew my boys liked to throw rocks–as I have to stop them from this activity often–but here they could throw to their hearts’ content. And they did. Who knew throwing rocks could equal literally over an hour of fun?

Apparently this is not something boys outgrow, as Josh spent quite a bit of time himself skipping rocks. This was not really my thing, so I took pictures instead.

The buckets were not played with as much as the rocks.

Owen doesn’t smile for me, but Duncan makes up for it.

I just adore that goofy grin!

Josh, who almost never comes out of a store without buying the boys “treats,” had gotten them cardboard airplanes.

So after lunch there was much fun to be had in flying them.

It was just one of those lovely days.

What wonderful pictures of an obviously marvelous day!
I love that Josh always buys “treats” and that he still loves throwing rocks!
    Blessings to all of you!
