Vacation 08
We spent a lovely week in Dewey Beach, Delaware last week. The weather was amazing; warm but not humid. We went with my mom and siblings and had a wonderful, relaxing time. We stayed in a large house (above) only a few minutes walk from the beach. It was a quiet, residential neighborhood. So much nicer than staying in a hotel! We found the place on Craig’s List and got a fabulous deal!
The boys loved the sand and water. It took Owen a little bit of time to warm up to the whole experience the first day. But soon he was squealing with joy as the waves rushed around him. Duncan was fearless from the beginning. I’d have liked it if he’d been a little less fearless, for as soon as the waves would recede he’d try to run down the beach headlong into them. He also started saying a new “word” while we were there. He ran around shouting “Bia, bia” all day long. I have no idea what it means, if anything. “Beach” perhaps? I doubt it.
We spent everyday out in the sand and sun. It was great to all play together and get time to read. In the afternoons the boys would take a nap, and we took turns staying with them. In the evenings we did various things. One night Josh and I were able to get out for a date night. We biked to Rehoboth, walked the boardwalk, the beach, and got Starbucks. It was a beautiful night, and it was fun to bike around the town, seeing the gorgeous homes. Another night we watched The Great Debaters, which was a very good movie. All in all, it was a great time, and I was so thankful the boys napped and slept well every night. It was wonderful to have some rest, swim in the salty sea, read a lot, and be carefree in a way that only the beach seems to allow. I’ve come back ready to put summer behind me and embrace the fall. Enjoy the following pictures of our time last week, and check out the new ones I posted on my Flickr Photostream too.
