This Old House

November 9, 2006

So, the UPS guy came yesterday and was just getting ready to leave when Josh got home. He’s written on our package “House looks vacant” and was getting ready to NOT leave our package for us. Josh assured him we were still there and not planning on vacating. I guess our house looks that bad!

House 1Here’s some early pictures of the work we’re doing. In the picture to the left, we’re pulling out the huge concrete slabs that made up the stairs to our tiny “porch.” In the picture below, they’re laying out the base for the decking of our new porch. Most weekends are spent on the house. We’ve made a lot of progress since these pictures: the porch is almost built, we have new new windows and a new door, the house is wrapped in Tyvek, and we have new siding on one side. We’re so excited and blessed to be able to do this work!

Oh, boy, that’s funny about the UPS woopsie. Maybe you could make up a creative, whimsical sign that says something like: “Pardon Our Mess While we’re Being Blessed” or a Map of your street with a big red dot at your address that says, “You are Here (and so are we). ” Wink wink.

I am living vicariously thru you as you fix up the ole homestead. What fond memories you’re making. I love working on house projects w/ Paul (or watching him work with the kids).
What kind of help do you need right now?

Wow! So much work! How rewarding it must be for you guys to see the progress. I’m looking forward to seeing what it looks like when it’s done. 🙂

Good thing Josh got home in time to save your package!!!
I know it is a lot of work, but when it is all said and done you will sit back relax, sip on some lemonade and enjoy the benefits!

Keep taking pictures. I think with old houses they are never done and at times that can get frustrating but if you take pictures the whole way and look back you will feel so good about all you HAVE accomplished. That has been so key for me when I look around at my list of to do’s. They are great old homes!! Can’t wait to see more of yours.

PS how are you feeling? How many weeks are you now?

If anyone wants to help by putting up siding, that’s what Josh will be doing tomorrow! Come one, come all! 🙂

I’ve been feeling pretty well, thanks Bethany. I’m getting ready to start week 11. I usually have morning sickness a couple times a week, but nothing horrible. Once I throw up I feel great! Usually eating before getting out of bed stops that, but like I said, usually a couple of mornings it doesn’t. Otherwise, feelin’ great!
