Easy Summer Fashion: Slim Tips

August 2, 2006

Unfortunately, most of us aren’t happy with some aspect of our shape/size. We wish our abs were tighter, our arms more defined, or still want to loose pregnancy weight. However, the most important thing is to have a healthy body and a healthy attitude when it comes to size and remember that above all, our body is the temple of the Lord. This should be an influence in how we dress and how we take care of our body in regards to health.

Although we all know magazines shouldn’t influence what we think about ourselves, these images can still encourage us have a negative attitude towards ourselves if we compare ourselves to airbrushed supermodels. My intention with this post is not to perpetuate or emphasize these attitudes, but to give some simple tips to make you look and feel slimmer through choices in fashion–not to idolize thinness. With that little disclaimer stated, here’s some tips:

Dark & Light
One of the things you learn in color theory is that dark colors recede, while light colors make things look bigger. That’s why if you paint a small room white or a light color, you make it feel larger. Well, the same goes with what you put on. If want to de-emphasize something, think dark colors. That’s why black is slimming. But that goes in general for all darker colors.

Monochromatic colors are all hues (tints or shades) of a single color. Wearing monochromatic outfits may sound boring, but it slims you down by giving you a “clean line.” Your eye is not distracted by competing colors or patterns, but instead, monochromatic colors tend to elongate you when put together as an outfit.

Buy Wide
If you have a wider upper body and sometimes feel like you look “top heavy,” buy wide-legged pants and jeans. This might seem like the opposite of what you should do, but actually, it helps balance you out and give you that clean, straight line. Wide-legged, flared, and boot-cut pants also can make your legs look longer and thinner.

    again great post! 🙂
It is so true…so many people do not dress well for your body shape. It is not about having expensive clothes and such but finding what looks good on you and flatters your body type ! We are all different after all!
