Knitting Party, April 8th

Nicole already posted this on her blog, but we’re having a Knitting Party on April 8th at 11:00 a.m. It’ll be at my house and Nicole will be our instructor. Thus far it’s Nicole, Zoanna, Sarah, myself and my mom. Any of you “local” bloggers are welcome to join us.
We found a fun and beautiful beginner’s project for us to try (pictured above). Nicole says, “This will be a simple, elegant scarf that you can make for yourself or to give as a present. You’ll learn how to cast on, knit and purl–all in one afternoon!” Well, we hope so! Anyway, if you’re interested, let Nicole or me know and we’ll send you information on materials.

Hey, Laurie, come on and join us! We are a very hip group. Some of us are more hip than others, and have cellulite to prove it. Sarah is not sure now she wants to come (“it’s a ladies’ thing; I don’t think I’ll join you) but maybe she’d watch your boys while you go to Danielle’s if you ask her.

As for the knitting party: no go for this girl. Sorry.
I don’t know what “my thing” (meaning domestic thing that helps set you apart as a woman or a mom or something) is going to be yet, but I’m thinking it won’t be knitting.
I tried to make pillows and cross stitch in college; it was a disaster. I have tried some sowing projects w/ Kathleen Weber and my sister in law: not as much a disaster, but also doesn’t seem to be “my thing”.
My mom and sisters all scrapbook and are very good at it. Since I’ve got this thing for perfection, I just can’t pick that up either as I will never be as good or invest the kind of time they do in it.
And, as for theme cakes: I’ve got too many good friends who I can employ to do it for the boys’ bday’s….so, still haven’t come to conclude what “my thing” will be yet. I’m thinking I’d really like to have a vegetable garden and can in the summer, and be able to keep nice flower beds.

Laurie, I think you should come anyway. It’s mainly an excuse for fellowship, anyway! 🙂 You too Briana! We’re going to plant veggie and flower beds this year too, I hope, so if you want to can (or I freeze) we could do that some day this summer.
Glad you guys like my new header. I was sooooo happy to finally find the html code to do that! I’d been looking for it for a while. Now I can change it with the seasons or whenever I feel like making a new one!
I’ve only canned under the supervision of my mother. I really don’t know what to do with that but want to learn. I grew up on garden fresh veggies, never store bought frozen or canned. That’s something I really want my own kids to have, too.
I did freeze corn off the cob last year…nothing better in the dead of winter in my opinion.
I would LOVE company for some freezing/canning. Let’s definitely seek to set something up.
What veggies/fruits do you freeze?
Corn and beans are my favorite things to freeze in large quantities. I shouldn’t say “I”, as mainly I’ve done this at home with my family. Also tomatoes and tomato sauce, pumpkins. Fruit we don’t freeze quite as much but usually strawberries and blueberries. I love canned pears. We should totally help each other out with storing up food this summer!
I think canning is such a romantic womanly thing to do. I’m in for the summer canning fest.
Unfortunately I’ll be out of town for the knitting. I would come just to be part of the cool people’s club, otherwise 😉

I’m in for the canning, too. I agree with Laurie about it being a romantic womanly thing to do. My dad, who grew up the middle child in a big family, and son of a poor pastor in Kansas, says that Grandma used to run her hand along the rows of canned food whenever she wanted to feel rich.
I love to knit. Wish I could join you!
