Classic Movie

February 20, 2006

Any of you classic movie buffs out there? If so, I just saw Laura starring Gene Tierney. It was nominated for five Academy Awards in its day and was full of suspense, a huge twist in the middle, and clever dialogue that just isn’t done anymore. It’s kind of Alfred Hitchcockish, if you like his movies (which I love). The basic plot is that a young and beautiful career woman named Laura is found murdered right before her wedding to a handsome and rich playboy. The detective assigned to her case has many suspects and becomes entranced by her portrait hanging in her apartment, while trying to unravel the mystery of her death. Great for a cold night and a cup of hot cocoa!

I love this movie! I discovered it years ago, then Darren and I watched it after we married. I really love the hard-bitten detective who finds love at last — an enjoyably-done cliche.
